Does your bedroom need a facelift? Most probably, yes! It deserves a facelift considering that it’s your own private world, and you spend a large chunk of your life sleeping in your bedroom.  Check out these cool and easy hacks that would give life to your otherwise dreary bedroom without having to drain your bank account.

Choose the right mattress
But mattresses are a big investment, right? Yes, but remember that your mattress is your bedroom’s centerpiece. It doesn’t matter if you have beautiful accessories if your mattress is ugly, old, moldy, or broken.
Not only that, the right mattress is essential in giving you a restful sleep so you’ll wake up refreshed and reinvigorated.  And everyone knows that having a comfortable sleep is needed for good health.
Finding a mattress that’s right for you is important. You can check out great but affordable mattress selections on online stores, mattress manufacturer’s websites, and brick-and-mortar furniture shops.

Use old wine bottles

Wine bottles come in dainty shapes and designs. If you have some, use them as flower vases.
Another idea is to use those bottles to fill some with water colored with dye---a different color per bottle. Close the bottles, and put them in a place where there’s plenty of daylight. When sunlight strikes the bottles, your room will be filled with dazzling kaleidoscope reflections due to the colored water.

Be inventive with your headboard
The headboard is a canvas for your creativity. Repurpose a wooden “country” door as a headboard. Or wrap an ordinary MDF board with crochet or patterned cloth then use the MDF as a headboard. A headboard really adds character to your mattress.

Make a wall gallery
Do you have some old photos? Put each one in a frame then hang them on a bedroom wall. A photo wall is a simple and inexpensive way of spicing up your bedroom. But don’t limit yourself on photos. You can use other things such as posters, postcards, works of art, or scarves.

Use textured paint
Does your wall look bland? You can make it unique without going over your budget. Go to your local home improvement shop and look for textured paint. There are many to choose from: paints that give you a crackled, marble, wood, or rough stone effect. Choose your favorite and apply on your wall.

Install textured wallpaper
If painting doesn’t strike an interest, use wallpaper as an alternative. Visit your home improvement shop and check out their wallpaper displays, there are hundreds to choose from. Opt for textured wallpaper such as those that resemble rough stones or granite. Not only do they look good on your wall, but they also give your bedroom a 3D atmosphere; rather than just a visual representation, you can actually feel the wall.

Make a mobile
A mobile is a decorative piece that hangs from the ceiling. You can use anything for a mobile - driftwood, bottles, old baskets, hanging pots, and other items. Tie them to each other, forming several levels.

Attach glow-in-the-dark stickers
Purchase lots of glow-in-the-dark stickers. You probably would want a theme to base your purchases on. For example, you might want to buy stickers that resemble stars, half moons, or planets. Stick them on your ceiling and the upper half of a wall. As soon as you switch off the light, the stickers glow, making your room into a sparkling planetarium.

Add a rotating lampshade
A rotating lamp projects interesting colors and images all around your bedroom as the shade slowly rotates. You can choose a lot of designs; our favorite would be a blue one with lots of fish, squids, and other aquatic animals. When you turn the lamp on, it would feel as if you’re under the sea as marine animals swim lazily around your walls and ceiling.

Repurpose unused furniture
Check out your home for unused furniture. If you have one, you can repurpose it as bedroom furniture. For example, your grandparents may have a small cupboard with a nice old wooden texture or design. Simply take out the doors, add a few shelves if necessary, and it becomes a bookshelf for your room. You don’t even have to paint it as the patina gives it character.
You can do the same thing with ready-to-throw wooden crates, old chests, boxes, and other items.

Put up floating shelves
Space limitation is not an excuse for not having bedroom shelves. Simply bolt in and reinforce thick, flat slabs of wood on your wall. Varnish or paint the slabs. Now, you have a floating shelf where you can put your books, decors, and other items. No need for a large, bulky, and expensive shelf.

Add indoor plants
Indoor plants not only make your room look cool and beautiful, it also helps keep the air fresh. In fact, several studies show that having an indoor plant may reduce psychological and physiological stress.

Install a flower box

You can use anything as a flower box---an old crate, a big hollowed-out piece of driftwood, or even an old baking tray. Plant some fragrant flowers such as jasmine, lavender, hyacinth, or sweet alyssum. The sweet scent of these flowers will fill up your room with a calming balm. And because your room is naturally scented, you won’t have to concern yourself with potentially harmful fumes coming from commercial fresheners.

Add a squatting area
Don’t throw away that old rug. Have it laundered until it’s spic and span. Place the rug on a corner, throw in a couple of big pillows. Now you have yourself a nice little nook in your bedroom where you can read, relax, watch TV, have a snack, or do other activities that you want to do outside your mattress.

Conclusion
These are just some of the thousands of ideas that you can try in perking up your bedroom. The nice thing is that each of these ideas doesn’t cost a lot. Many of the items or tools you need may already be there in your toolbox, garage, or shed. You only need a little bit of creativity to transform them into beautiful bedroom accessories.
